ZERO MOTORCYCLES TO ANNOUNCE ‘2008 ZERO X ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE SOLD OUT’
– Sales Soar as Company Debuts 2009 Zero X at This Year’s Alt Car Expo –
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (September 23, 2008) – Zero Motorcycles, the leading electric motorcycle manufacturer, plans to announce at this year’s Alternative Energy and Transportation Expo (Alt Car Expo) that the company’s 2008 Zero X electric motorcycle has sold out. This success is a landmark moment for the electric vehicle and green movement. For the first time a vehicle with a ‘light footprint’ has blazed a discernable new path. Adding to the excitement is the world debut of Zero Motorcycles’ 2009 Zero X. Zero will be displaying the pre-production model of its all-electric dirt bike at AltCar in Santa Monica, California, on September 26-27th. In addition to the exclusive preview, media and interested consumers are invited to demo the 08 Zero X at the event.
The 08 Zero X exceeded all expectations for the first American-Made dirt bike and the 09 is already doing the same. Even before the announcement, the company has hundreds of people waiting for the next model. Fortunately, they will not have to wait long. The 09 Zero X will ship next month, October 2009.
“Zero Motorcycles is excited to unveil the 09 Zero X pre-production model at the AltCar Expo because it’s the perfect venue to share our products’ evolution,” said Neal Saiki, inventor and founder of Zero Motorcycles. “After the hugely successful launch of the 08 Zero X dirt bike, we challenged many of our current customers and industry experts to suggest ways to make it even better. All of this culminated with the latest upgrades reflected in our 09 version.”
This latest iteration of the Zero X is designed to be stronger, faster, and more durable in the most demanding terrain. Improvements start with a beefier drivetrain and work their way out from there. To handle the more aggressive riding opportunities that the 09 Zero X opens up, they have made upgrades to the brakes, handlebars, front and rear suspension, rear wheel and more.
The Zero X Electric Motorcycle is a no-compromise dirt bike that utilizes lithium-ion technology to deliver surprising power and explosive acceleration. With a 23 horsepower electric motor and a total weight of 145 pounds, the Zero X can keep pace with a conventional 250cc off-road motorcycle – without the conventional problems of noise and pollution. Using the Zero X, riders can enjoy their surroundings without trashing them. This is made possible by using advanced electrical technology and by leaving a minimal physical footprint on the trail.
The Alt Car Expo will take place at The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, September 26-27. Guests in attendance will have an opportunity to demo the 08 Zero X first-hand and be the first to view the production model of the 09 Zero X.

2008 Shineray XY250GY Motorcross
This may be the coolest display I have ever seen at a motorcycle show. The 2008 Shineray XY250GY with all it’s parts suspended as if it just exploded. The XY250GY also looks great put together. In fact, I would not be surprised if this motorcycle changed the way Americans look at Chinese motorcycles. It has the looks and the specs. The price is good. If the quality is close this may be a winner.
Check out MyChinaMoto.com for more information. While your there be sure to scroll down and check out the Shineray XY200GY-7. It is a dualsport with big racks, front and back, and a 5 gallon tank. It has a nice utility look to it. The wave rotor on the front looks a little out of place but I will let that slide. Besides MyChinaMoto, check out Shineray Owners Forum to get more information from Shineray owners.
Asiawing 2008 Lineup
Asiawing recently redesigned their website and has some details on new models. Their home page claims 2008 will bring some large capacity motorcycles to the market. At the time of writing this there were still some dead links so it looks to be a work in progress.
The site shows the Spark 500 single cylinder street bike. The picture is an artists sketch which makes it hard to believe it will be available this year. The bike has high handle bars, inverted forks, dual front disk brakes, a stacked halogen headlight and futuristic styling. It has a dry weight of 368 lbs. This bike looks to have a lot of great features and not many models to compete against it.
A 450cc aluminum framed dirtbike is also displayed. There are no details on the bike, only a thumbnail picture that looks a lot like a Honda cr450X. I will have to keep checking back to see if they post anymore information.
Finnaly, Asiawing’s site displays a UTV and an ATV powered by 500cc engines. Again, only small thumbnails are displayed. No model names. Bummer.
I will keep everyone posted on any more information I can find. If anyone has any more information on these machines please leave a comment below.

United Motors V2S 250R
This is the United Motors V2S 250R. It is basically a Hyosung GT250R with a different paint scheme. I personally like it better than the solid colors Hyosung has for thier bikes. The style is bold but not obnoxious like the tribal pait on the hyo bikes.
United Motors has a multi-year contract with Hyosung to rebadge thier models. This should create some extra cash flow for Hyosung but might also canibalize some of thier sales. Is Hyosung shooting themselves in the foot or building new revenue streams?
I personally think Hyosung made a good long term move here. Yes, short term UM will get some of Hyosung’s customers. UM will eventually sell Hyosung built bikes that are unique from the Hyosung models. However, motorcycle owners are a very loyal bunch. The story behind thier bike is important to them. Hyosung is a company that scrapped it’s way to into the motorcycle industry to become a player by building motorcycles. UM on the other hand simply rebadges motorcycles made by other companies. This is an important difference that will make it hard for UM to build owner loyalty.
Do you think UM / Hyosung deal will be good for both companies?
