Loncin LX650

Loncin Motorcycles had a large presence at the 2011 CIMA show in China this year. On display was the LX 650 most likely powered by the same 650 single they build for BMW G650GS.

The LX650 borrows it’s looks from the vTwin 650 Suzuki Gladius.

Loncin also displayed modern liquid cooled engines that we can assume will allow Loncin to meet strict emissions requirements around the world.  The TQ260 four stroke 260cc engine, the YF300 four stroke 300cc engine and the SH125 scooter engine were on display but did not seem to be in any of the Loncin bikes at CIMA.

While visually almost identical to the beautiful MRX, the 650 L is more than just a lowered version, the MRX 650 L has new a suspension design developed upon the GP-based chassis and suspension geometry found on all Fischer motorcycles, but with innovative new linkage and a special Ohlins rear shock to provide progressive, compliant, and responsive feedback for maximum suspension performance. Just like the standard MRX and MRX SP, the MRX 650L features a powerful liquid-cooled, 90 degree V-twin engine, Ohlins suspension and Brembo brake components. With a comfortable, narrow seat at 27 inches high, the MRX 650L is perfect for more riders.

The MRX series features the unique Trellispar frame, the world’s only one-piece production motorcycle chassis. The Trellispar frame combines the best features from other types of frame construction to give riders a precision-tuned chassis. The MRX rider- and racer – will experience the precise front end feel and sensitivity of a trellis tube frame, but with the controlled rigidity of a twin spar frame. Created in America, the Trellispar frame is the centerpiece of the MRX line-up, and performs great on the street- and at the track. The MRX 650 L is the second of several planned models based on this sturdy platform.

Base price of the MRX 650L is $7999, and comes with many premium standard features found on motorcycles at twice the price.

Johnny Tai of Bennche on his companies Megelli 250m

The latest Megelli motorcycles are some of the sharpest looking quarter-liter bikes to hit the beginner bike scene. In 2009 QLINK had all but secured US distribution of the bikes, announced rollout plans and retail price.

Former QLINK VP Johnny Tai left the company last year and started Texas based Bennche, Inc. He and his team put together a business plan and pitched it to UK design firm Megelli and their manufacturing partner Hisun. Obviously they were impressed and now Bennche has been granted exclusive distribution of the 250r, 250s and 250m to the USA market.

The trio of Megelli motorcycles will be built in China by Hisun with Megelli employees overseeing Quality Assurance, production and other day to day processes. Quality is also a very high priority for Bennche. First off, it will allow them to provide the customer a strong 18 month limited warranty. In addition, Johnny Kim explained to OtherMakes.net that he will grow the Bennche dealer base slowly and only sign on dealers with a strong history of customer service and satisfaction. He believes strong customer service is the only way for Bennche to be successful in powersports distribution.

The 248 pound single cylinder 250r, 250s and 250m were on display at the 2010 Indy Dealer Expo last week along side Bennche’s ATV, scooter and UTV offerings. Retail price for the 250r Sportbike will remain the same as QLINK had planned. However, the 250s streetfighter is $100 higher retail and the 250m supermoto is $300 higher than QLINK’s planned retail price.

The prices of the motorcycles are still priced compedative compared to other offerings in the 250cc price range and the style is unmatched. If Hisun and Megelli do well with the quality of the bikes there is no doubt these striking machines will do well for Bennche.

QLINK was not available for comment but the Megelli bikes have been removed from the motorcycle models list on their website.

Despite a poor economy and the absence of many big motorcycle brands Hyosung Motors America had strong presents at the 2010 Cycle World International Motorcycle show in Chicago. I chatted with Hyosung Motors America President Tony Kim and Regional Sales Manager Hyon Ko about the 2010 models and bikes in the works. Tony Kim confirmed that later this year or early next year we will see an all electric scooter from Hyosung available here in the states. The Gem 4.0 and 2.0 were first unveiled at EICMA late last year.

Hyosung unveiled the ST7 cruiser earlier this year at EICMA but the 700cc liquid cooled twin made it’s first US appearance at the Chicago show. The South Korea based company also displayed the newly redesigned GT250 and GT250R with redesigned tail section, black triple tree and fuel injection.

Hyosung GV700i Aquila

We have not received confirmation that S&T Motors will have the new GV700i Hyosung in the 2010 line up but judging by the pics our friends at Asphalt And Rubber sent me bike is looking very production ready. The classic styled liquid cooled vTwin is based on the flexible 650 that sits in Hyosung’s GV650 cruiser and GT650 sport bike line. The engine block is painted black and the valve covers and engine cases receive a chrome finish. A red GV700i with leather side bags with red stitching, windshield and case guards showed off Hyosung’s potential to accessorize the line. Dual exhaust pipes, chrome wheels, full coverage fenders and a tank mounted speedometer further differentiate the classic Aquila from it’s sporty cousin, the gv650 Avitar.

With the recent announcement that ATK and Hyosung will be working together to sell ATK branded Hyosungs at select Harley Davidson dealers it seems this model is showing up at a great time. Frank White, CEO of ATK mentioned Harley Davidson is not in on the deal and only individual dealerships are working with ATK and S&T. Hell For Leather speculates the lack of objection by the Mo Co means Harley is considering this deal for the entire retail chain. You can’t argue it could be a great way to bring a younger market into dealerships with low prices and get them hooked on the HOG coolaid. Possibly another reason for the unfortunate decision of dumpstering Buell?

Dealernews has a great summary of the Zero Motorcycles distribution model. In the article they mention Zero will launch an all electric (of course) sportbike in 2010. They will also have a dualsport and new MX version later this summer 2009. While most electric motorcycle manufacturers only have a few models, Zero is cranking out products at an amazing pace.

A few people in the forums mentioned it would be nice to see a dualsport version of the Zero S supermoto. However, with 16” wheels fit tightly in the custom swingarm in order to keep ride height low, a traditional 18” wheel is not an option. The dualsport will either have unconventional wheel sizes like the Zero S and Zero X or this bike will be one off and very different from the Zero S. Dealernews mentioned the Sportbike and dualsport are being built based on feedback from the customers. Zero is listening. Can’t wait to see what they do with the feedback.
