Mission Motors Photo Shoot

Here are some new shots of the Mission One from a recent photo shoot. The Mission One competed in the 2009 TTXGP this June where it took 4th place. The Mission One is the Tesla of the electric motorcycle world. This makes sense as the company was started by some ex-Tesla employees. When the Mission One goes into production some time next year it will feature tunable engine braking via regenerative braking. It will also allow you to tune power delivery. All tuning will be done with a USB key that can be configured on your laptop.

Brammo TTXGP Bike Image

Up until now we have not seen a real image of the Brammo TTR TTXGP bike. In addition to the Best Buy logo shown in the computer generated image there is a Geek Squad sponsor logo. Brammo will be using Best Buy to sell the Brammo Enertia to customers and Geek Squad will be doing repairs. We hope with a good deal of training in motorcycle maintenance. The TTR is based on the Enertia that will be sold to customers later this year.

Brammo Hires Vectrix And GM Execs

Brammo announced they have hired Roger Gerson formerly of Vectrix to be the electric motorcycle manufacturer’s Electrical Engineering Manager. Vectrix has been communicating signs of financial trouble over the last few weeks and are said to be seeking a merger or buyout. Brammo also hired John Farris formerly of GM. Farris joins Brammo as Director of Marketing. Farris was responsible for brand marketing of the iconic Chevrolet Silverado. Adrian Stewart will be Brammo’s Director of Channel Development. He was previously employed by IBM, Kleinwort Benson and Dresdner Bank. The full press release is after the jump.

Brammo is pushing hard to be come a leader in the electric motorsports space. Craig Bramscher reported they currently have a working prototype of their next electric vehicle. Brammo will also take part in the TTXGP electric motorcycle race at the Isle of Man in June.

ASHLAND, Ore., May 1 /PRNewswire/ — Brammo, a start-up manufacturer of electric vehicles, set to launch the Enertia, the first motorcycle in their lineup has added three industry leaders to its executive team. Gerson comes to Brammo from Vectrix Electrics where he was instrumental in launching production of the Vectrix Maxiscooter, one of the early entries to the electric vehicle market. Roger’s past associations include; iRobot, Brooks Automation, Avidyne, and Safe Flight Instrument Corporation. Roger earned a BS-Engineering from Northwestern University, and an MS-Engineering from Boston University. Roger is a bicycle and motorsport enthusiast who enjoys 2-wheeling, 4-wheeling, and sledding.

2009 Zero X Electric Motorcycle

A member of Electric Motorcycle Forum noticed that you can buy the Zero X on Amazon.com signaling Zero is experimenting with another minor shift from traditional motorcycle sales. Zero currently uses a system of sales representatives who host demo rides and educate perspective buyers about the bikes. When a rider chooses to buy a Zero the bike is drop shipped to the customer or the representative’s dealership if they have a retail location. If the rep has a retail location they get 10 to 13% profit on the deal. Representatives without brick and mortar get less.

As mentioned earlier, the company is forgoing the traditional distribution model. Instead, dealers offer demo rides only. If a customer decides to buy, he or she does so directly from Zero through its website (www.zeromotorcycles.com), entering a promotional code provided by the dealer, who then earns a commission of 10 percent to 13 percent. If a customer doesn’t enter a code, and resides in a territory with a Zero rep, the company says the agent will still earn a commission. Zero pays dealers monthly.

The article goes on to explain that representatives without brick and mortar location get less money for a sale.

If you have an Amazon Prime account you can get free shipping. I assume you can also save on sales tax in some states. Being on Amazon could be great advertising for Zero Motorcycles. Zero not only has an innovative set of motorcycles, they continue to innovate in their marketing, PR, sales, advertising and distribution. Zero is turning out to be a wild ride for the whole powersports industry.

Zero Sportbike by 2010 | Zero Dualsport in 2009

Dealernews has a great summary of the Zero Motorcycles distribution model. In the article they mention Zero will launch an all electric (of course) sportbike in 2010. They will also have a dualsport and new MX version later this summer 2009. While most electric motorcycle manufacturers only have a few models, Zero is cranking out products at an amazing pace.

A few people in the forums mentioned it would be nice to see a dualsport version of the Zero S supermoto. However, with 16” wheels fit tightly in the custom swingarm in order to keep ride height low, a traditional 18” wheel is not an option. The dualsport will either have unconventional wheel sizes like the Zero S and Zero X or this bike will be one off and very different from the Zero S. Dealernews mentioned the Sportbike and dualsport are being built based on feedback from the customers. Zero is listening. Can’t wait to see what they do with the feedback.

Zero S Street Legal Electric Motorcycle

Today Zero Motorcycles introduced their street legal electric motorcycle, the Zero S. With a 60 mile range and 31 horsepower, 62.5 ft-lbs of torque at the crack of the throttle this bike should start to make commuters think about electric. At $9950.00 it undercuts the Brammo Enertia by $2000. The Brammo Enerta is set to retail at $11995 and is not yet available.

Brammo Enertia To Enter TTXGP

Craig Bramscher posted to twitter TTGXP race June 12th – See the Brammo Enertia there! Looks like Brammo will enter the Enertia in the TTXGP electric motorcycle race. Check out the promotional video Craig Posted on Facebook. A comment below the facebook video reads “We are going to be in the race….”.

I believe this makes Brammo the first motorcycle manufacturer to enter the race. With only a few months until the race it will be interesting to see who else enters.

New KTM E-Bike On Display At FIM

New pictures of the KTM all electric motorcycle, the “E-BIKE”, surfaced after being on display at FIM. (Notice www.ktmebike.com resolves to KTM site) The pictures show a nice profile view of the electric motor and the bottom of the battery pack. It looks like the bike retains a nice compact profile and hides the batteries well. The shape of the swing arm is a unique. The bike runs two 21″ tires as opposed to the 21″ front and 18″ rear common on gas fueled / ICE enduros.

Absent from the left side of the handle bar is the clutch lever. However there appears to be a throttle tube with wires running from it. I can speculate this may be used for regenerative braking. Could just be a start button or on/off switch which is more likely. This bike is obviously engineered from the ground up, not a 125 with an electric motor and batteries grafted in. Looks like the Quantya Strada and Zero X will have some strong competition. Can’t wait to see more.
